Vellefrie

Vellefrie is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vellefrie situated at an altitude of 241 m above sea level, 5 km west of Saulx and about 10 km north- northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, to the west of the basin of Saulx, in the valley of the Ruisseau des Grands Prés, at the southern foot of the Haut de Chenevières.

The area of ​​5.91 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the pelvic region of Saulx. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of the Ruisseau des Grands Prés, which provides for drainage southeast to Durgeon. The trough is on average 235 m and has a maximum width of one kilometer. The valley is in a plateau incised ( to 260 m ), which leads on to the valley of Bâtard to the west. Agricultural land use predominates here. To the north is the valley of Haut de Chenevières (295 m), flanked to the east by Moulmont (274 m). To the southwest, the municipality's area extends to the wooded hilltop of the Bois de Chevaney. With 324 m find the highest mountains of Vellefrie is achieved. In geological- tectonic terms, the terrain consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). In some places, is also evident sandstone and limestone from the Triassic.

Neighboring communities of Vellefrie are Varogne and Vilory in the north, La Villeneuve- Bellenoye -et -la- Maize in the east, Colombier in the south and Flagy in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Vellefrie belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Villeneuve. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. 1679 Vellefrie has been connected to the rule Flagy. In 1786 the residents were awarded freedom rights. Today Vellefrie is a member of the comprehensive six localities municipal association Communauté de communes of Six Villages.

Attractions

The church of Notre -Dame de l' Assomption 1735 was rebuilt. For valuable facilities include a statue of Saint Barbara ( 15-16. Century), a statue of Mary (16th century), the pulpit, and painted richly carved altars with paintings and statues from the 18th century.

Population

With 136 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is Vellefrie to the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 272 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Vellefrie is still a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and in the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Flagy after Saulx. Further road links exist with Varogne and Bellenoye.
