Scalpay, Outer Hebrides

Scalpay is an island of the Outer Hebrides (Scotland ), southeast of the island of Lewis and Harris, with which it is connected by a bridge since 1997. The island has a population of 322 people who live mainly on fish farming and shrimp fishing.

On Scalpay of Eilean glass lighthouse, a successor building is the oldest lighthouse in the Outer Hebrides from the year 1789. The present tower was built in the 1820s by the famous lighthouse engineer Robert Stevenson, the grandfather of the author Robert Louis Stevenson.
