Sebastiano Folli

Sebastiano Folli (also Bastiano Folli, * 1568 or 1569 in Siena, † February 2nd, 1621 ibid ) was an Italian painter.

Life

Sebastiano Folli was born as the son of Girolamo Folli. He was a member of the Compagnia di Santa Caterina in Fontebranda contrada Oca ( goose) and their priors from November 1599 to February 1600. From 1589 to 1594 he held probably in Rome, to the Vatican Library, the Palazzo Lateran and Santa Alessandro Ottaviano de 'Medici for Maria Maggiore (later Pope Leo XI. called ) to work. He then returned to Siena, where he worked in the environment of peers Ventura Salimbeni and his older half- brother Francesco Vanni and with Rutilio Manetti. First works were documented from 1598, when he created a Gonfanon for the Compagnia del Holy Sacrament di Siena Piancastagnaio and in the Sala del Consiglio worked in the Palazzo Pubblico. From 1602 he worked at the Santuario di Santa Caterina. His second journey to Rome took place in April 1605, but was due to the sudden death of his patron Leo XI. an abrupt end. On his return to Siena he created four works in the same year in the Convento delle Sperandie ( Monastero delle Trafisse ). The work started in 1603 in San Sebastiano in Camollia he finished in 1608 with the fresco of San Sebastiano davanti All'Imperatore Diocletian ( dt = St Sebastian before Diocletian Emperor ). Among his most important works, the Gloria belongs ( also Trionfo di Santa Lucia) steadies mentioned in the Chiesa di Santa Lucia ( Chiesa dei Santi also Niccolò e Lucia, Via Pian dei Mantellini ) in Siena, he from 1612 to 1617 with his students Simondio Salimbeni and Astolfo Petrazzi executed. In 1614 he completed the work of Madonna in gloria Incoronata dal Cristo bambino circondata since Angeli e Santi ( dt = Madonna in Glory crowned by the boy Jesus and in the company of angels and saints ) by Francesco Vanni († 1610) in the Chiesa del Santuccio in Siena, which were initially led by Ventura Salimbeni († 1613 ).
