Selice

Selice (Hungarian Szelőce ) is a municipality in Okres Šaľa of Nitriansky kraj in southwestern Slovakia. The population as of December 31, 2010 to 2,959 persons.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Slovak Danube lowland on the left bank of the Waag. These runs to the east of the municipality and the Dlhý kanál ( " long channel"). Apart from the riparian forests in the Waag, the terrain is mostly deforested and used for agricultural purposes. Selice is situated 14 kilometers from Šaľa and 27 kilometers from Nové Zámky.

The municipality also the formerly independent village Sok heard (1946 incorporated, to 1927 Slovak Maďarský Sok; Hungarian Magyarsók ), however, this is not a district.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1078, as Seleuch writing. The place was dominated by agriculture, in addition, there were also several mills on the Waag.

Until 1919 the town belonged in the county Neutra the Kingdom of Hungary and came afterwards to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. 1938 Czechoslovakia had the place after the First Vienna Award of Hungary cede and until 1945 was there again.
