Seminary

A Theological Seminary is an educational institution, is taught in theology. The picture is taken, depending on the seminar according to its own regulations, in many cases, a detailed, not only formal application is required. Some institutions charge tuition fees or school fees, whereas others pay aid to its students.

As Theological Seminary, a building, a degree program or an event may also be referred to. The latter, together with an addition to the field of study, especially for practical theology and systematic theology seminars the case.

Background

In addition to the seminars, which are maintained by the state, there are numerous church or free seminars, institutes and educational institutions that train future theologian for the church service, or research at a university.

University courses in theology put the emphasis on scientific training and are practical in general little. Colleges offer some very practical courses. The training for a theological profession is not officially regulated in Germany and therefore organizes among other things, universities, private schools and institutes. The term " theologian " is not protected, but there are protected academic degrees, such as master's or diploma in theology.

Most seminars will be seen worldwide and funded by churches themselves. In Central Europe, some churches have the commitment to participate in the State in theological education because of church contracts and similar schemes. Thus the states with connected at state universities seminars are involved in the training in Germany. There are also seminars by independent agencies: in such seminars is especially the internal training conducted or completed. The theoretical training at such a seminar is usually complemented by internships and practical training units to a preacher or seminaries.
