Sergejs Žoltoks

Sergei Žoltoks (Russian: Сергей Иванович Жолток / Sergei Ivanovich Scholtok; born December 2, 1972 in Riga, Latvian SSR, † November 3, 2004 in Minsk, Belarus ) was a Latvian ice hockey player for the Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadiens Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators played in the National Hockey League.

Career

Žoltoks began his career with Dinamo Riga. NHL Entry Draft 1992, he was selected by the Boston Bruins in the third round to 55th place. After that he went to North America and played in the first three years primarily in the farm team in Providence. Almost failed he moved to the IHL Las Vegas Thunder and convinced there. Before the end of his second IHL season, he made ​​the leap back into the NHL with the Ottawa Senators. The 1998/99 season he played then with the Montreal Canadiens who cast him in the third season to Edmonton. Even after the season went on the trip and led him this time to Minnesota. Also in the game, he could not finish the third season and moved to the Nashville Predators.

Because of the lockout in North America, he played in his native Riga 2000.

Already some time ago suffered Žoltoks under physical ailments, but was declared to play again after investigations by the doctors again. Žoltoks collapsed on 3 November 2004 during a game for his club Riga in 2000 in Minsk / Belarus and died shortly afterwards from heart failure. He had not played at the time of his collapse, but stood behind the band and watched the game. He left behind a wife and two sons.
