Shaun Murphy (singer)

Shaun Murphy ( * 1948 in Omaha, Nebraska; actually Cheryl Murphy), also known as Stoney, is an American rock and rhythm and blues singer and percussionist. She was known primarily through her work with Meat Loaf and later as front woman of Little Feat.

Murphy grew up in Omaha and then first moved to Cedar Rapids in Iowa and later to Detroit. There, she was discovered at a theater production by an employee of Motown and got a recording contract with the label. In 1971, she took the name Stoney along with the then-unknown singer Meat Loaf headed Jim Steinman Album Stoney & Meat Loaf on. After the duo parted.

Stoney now began with Bob Seger cooperate. After she sang on his 1975 album Beautiful Loser, she changed her name to Shaun Murphy. In the 1980s she continued working with Seger and also toured with Eric Clapton. In 1988, she was heard at Let It Roll for the first time on an album of the rock band Little Feat, where they replaced Craig Fuller in 1993 as lead singer. She also starred in 1990s on albums by Alice Cooper, Michael Bolton, Maria Muldaur and others. In the spring of 2009, the remaining members of Little Feat from her parted. Later she founded the Shaun Murphy band.
