Shawn McNeil

Shawn McNeil (born 17 March 1978 in Pembroke, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is currently active for the Herner EV from the league.

Career

McNeil began his career in 1993 at the Kamloops Blazers, for whom he played until 1997 in the Canadian junior league WHL. Before the start of the 1996/97 season took him the Washington Capitals of the NHL under contract, who had selected him in the NHL Entry Draft in 1996 in the third round to 78th position. However, the Center completed no NHL game for the locals and spent the next two seasons with the Red Deer Rebels in the same division until he moved to Louisiana IceGators in the East Coast Hockey League in 1999. That same year, McNeil was additionally appointed to the Canadian national team, for whom he played two games.

After more than 270 games and 130 goals of Canadians Louisiana left after four years and joined the following season, 2003/ 04 to Germany for EV Duisburg in the 2nd Bundesliga. After two years and 100 games disputed the attacker got the foxes in the German Hockey League and played in the following year for the league, the team was able to reach the play- downs against the Kassel Huskies.

Despite the decline of the " Huskies " in the second division, McNeil moved with his teammate Hugo Boisvert from Duisburg to Kassel and played with the North Hesse again two seasons for the promotion to the DEL. With more than 120 points scorer in both years, Shawn McNeil was one of the best players in Kassel and dominated with them the second Bundesliga. Although we missed the 2006/ 07 the rise in the final of the play-offs, but these managed with 27 points ahead in the main round and a final victory against the Landshut Cannibals in the following year.

McNeil erkrannte unexpectedly in the summer of 2008 from rheumatism and maintained a training deficit in the DEL 2008/09 season, after which he moved to Herner EV in the league in January 2009. The Center reserves the option to the 2009/10 season to the foxes Duisburg to change.
