Shirataka (Yamagata)

Shirataka (Japanese白鹰 町, machi ) is a town in the district Nishiokitama in the Japanese prefecture of Yamagata.

Geography

The municipality is crossed from south to north from the Mogami. Significant elevations of 1,237 m high Hayama (叶 山) on the border with Nagai and Asahi, as well as the 994 m high Shirataka -yama (白鹰 山).

History

With the introduction of modern Japanese municipal system on April 1, 1889 in the district Nishiokitama works include the village communities ( mura ) Arato (荒 砥 村, -mura ), Shirataka (白鹰 村, -mura ), Higashine (东 根 村, -mura ), Ayukai (鲇 贝 村, -mura ) and Koguwa (蚕桑 村, -mura ). On December 3, 1890 Arato was raised to the small town ( machi ). On January 1, 1892, the village Juo (十 王村, -mura ) was formed from areas of Shirataka. On October 1, 1954 all six municipalities were merged to today's Shirataka, the former Arato is the center. On October 10, 1955, the district HARYU (针 生) from Asahi in neighboring county Nishimurayama the community Shirataka was slammed.

Traffic

The most important trunk roads in Shirataka are the national roads 287 by Yonezawa or Higashine, as well as the National Road 348 or Nagai, Yamagata.

Connection to the rail network consists of the Yamagata tetsudō Flower Nagai -sen stopping in Koguwa, Ayukai, Shikinosato and Arato. The line was operated until 1988 by the JR East, former Japanese National Railways.

Twinning

Shirataka closed on May 11, 1972, a twinning with Tochio in Niigata Prefecture. However, this city was incorporated on January 1, 2006, by Nagaoka and the dissolved Friendship cities.

Education

In Shirataka there are six urban primary schools (白鹰 町 立X小学校, Shirataka - chōritsu X shōgakkō ): Koguwa, Ayukai, Arato, Takayama (鹰山), Nakayama (中山) and Higashine, the urban middle schools East (白鹰 町 立 东 中 学校, Shirataka - chōritsu Higashi chūgakkō ) and West (白鹰 町 立 西 中 学校, Shirataka - chōritsu Nishi chūgakkō ), as well as the prefectural high school Arato (山形 県 立 荒 砥 高等学校, Yamagata - kenritsu Arato Kōtō Gakko ).
