Shire of McKinlay

- 20.65141.73333333333Koordinaten: 20 ° 39 ' S, 141 ° 44' O The Shire of McKinlay is a Local Government Area ( LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland. The area is 40,735 km ² and has about 1050 inhabitants.

Geography

The Shire is in the northwest of the state about 1370 km northwest of the capital Brisbane.

The largest town and administrative headquarters of the LGA is Julia Creek with about 370 inhabitants. Other towns are Kynuna, Malpas Trenton, McKinlay, Nelia and Taldora.

History

The researchers John McKinlay named the river with his own name, who gave his name to the Shire. His explorations also led to the colonization of the area from 1867. 1888 was founded the town of McKinlay and four years later established an administrative region under the name of Mackinlay. After Julia Creek grew in importance, in 1932 the county seat was moved there.

Management

The McKinlay Shire Council has five members. The Mayor ( mayor) and four other Councillor shall be elected by all residents of the Shire. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
