Sibylla of Anhalt

Sibylla of Anhalt ( born September 28, 1564 Bernburg (Saale ). † 16./26 November 1614 in Leonberg ) was from 1577 to 1581 the abbess of free secular pin Gernrode and Frose. She left the pen for her marriage to Frederick I, thus she became the Duchess of Württemberg.

Life

Sibylla was in 1564 as the daughter of Prince Joachim Ernst von Anhalt and his first wife Agnes of Barby († 1569 ) was born. Under pressure from her father's still underage Sibylla was elected by the chapter as successor to her sister Maria Anna of Anhalt in 1577. It was confirmed by Emperor Rudolf II in office. During her reign as abbess only occurs in a charter of the monastery in which they invested the widow of Stefan Molitor, who had been the first Protestant superintendent of the pin with a piece of land. After Frederick's death in 1608, she retired to Leonberg and left it there to expand the Leonberger castle and built the still existing Pomeranzengarten in Renaissance style in front of the castle by the architect Heinrich Schickhardt.
