Siegfried Selberherr

Siegfried Selberherr ( born August 3, 1955 in Klosterneuburg ) is an Austrian scientist in the field of microelectronics. He is professor at the Institute of Microelectronics at the Technical University of Vienna (TU Wien ) where he conducts research primarily in the modeling and simulation of physical phenomena in microelectronics.

Life

Siegfried Selberherr since 1988 Full Professor of Software Technology Microelectronic Systems at the TU Vienna. He studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Vienna, graduated with a degree in engineering in 1978, received his doctorate in technical sciences in 1981 and his habilitation in 1984. Thereafter, he was a guest scientist at the Bell Laboratories in the USA. Since 1996 Selberherr ' Distinguished Lecturer ' of the IEEE Electron Devices Society. From 1998 to 2005 he served as Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Since 2001, Siegfried Selberherr Member of the Supervisory Board of the ams AG and since 2004 member (Chair 2008-2013) of the Advisory Board of the Interuniversity Institute for Biotechnology (IFA -Tulln ). In this period falls the founding of University and Research Center Tulln ( UFT), which Selberherr support since the beginning. The UFT as part of the Technopole Tulln works with several external research institutions and has its research focus in the field of renewable raw materials.

Work

Selberherr has published his research team in his scientific career to date, more than 300 articles in journals and books and more than 900 publications in conference proceedings, including over 130 contributed an invited lecture. In addition, he has written two books and contributed to the publication of a further 30 plants. He has been cared for over 90 dissertations.

In his research Selberherr has developed, among others, a simulator for Metal -Oxide- Semiconductor devices ( MINIMOS ), in which a named after him mobility model is implemented for charge carriers. In addition, he has conducted numerous research projects with semiconductor companies and funding agencies, such as the Fund for Scientific Research ( FWF), the Christian Doppler Research Association or the European Research Council ( ERC).
