The sense is about 60 km long, right or north tributary of the Franconian Saale in Lower Franconia and Hesse ( Germany ). Your headwaters to the confluence with the Narrow sense is also called a wide sense.

Name

The name meaning goes back to the ancient Indian word back sindhu, which means flow. The sense gave the municipalities Obersinn, Mittelsinn, Sinntal castle and sense their names. The name was also on the inflow Narrow sense.

Geography

Course

The (width) sense rises in the Frankish Rhön at the foot of Cross Hill ( 927.8 m ), near the district Oberwildflecken, the pond fountain. The source is located in a nature and marine reserve. In several wetlands is water that flows into the flow of a water tank collects. Other secondary sources let the young mind at a few hundred meters to grow to a large creek that then to Oberwildflecken runs through the forest. In Zeitlofs to the Hessian- under Frankish border of the Dammersfeldkuppe ( 927.9 m) flows from the northeast coming Narrow sense.

Partial accompanied by the railway line Würzburg- Fulda and crosses below Ried Mountain from a bridge of the A 7, the sense initially flows in a south-westerly and then south to Gemunden, where it flows into the Franconian Saale, 700 meters from its mouth into the Main.

Flora

Since the 19th century the occurrence of extremely rare fritillary at the meaning is known. This plant occurs here 160-250 meters above sea level in different meadow communities on, especially in the wet meadows of the two adjacent nature reserves Sinngrund at Obersinn and meadows sense of Altengronau.

Fauna

In the sense grayling, brown trout, brook lamprey, brook trout, stone loach, barbel, bream, perch, gudgeon, dace, ruffe, salmon, arbor, bullhead, rainbow trout, roach and rudd occur. In addition, is worth mentioning that after a resettlement action 1987/88 of the European beaver in the catchment area of meaning and is native Jossa again.
