Skuteč

Skuteč ( German Skutsch ) is a small town in eastern Bohemia Okres Chrudim, it lies north-east of the city Hlinsko.

History

Skuteč was first mentioned in 1289 and belonged to the possession of the royal chamber. From the early 14th century it had the status of a vassal town and belonged to the rule Rychmburk. After 1538 it is referred to as a town.

Since the 19th century, Skuteč developed into a center of the shoe and textile industries. Near the town are quarries, mined in the high-quality granite.

Attractions

  • Zvěřina House ( Zvěřinův dum ) with vaults dating from the 16th century.
  • The Gothic Dean Church of the Assumption of the second half of the 14th century was rebuilt in 1550 in the Renaissance style.
  • The city of Corpus Christi Church was built in 1385-1391 according to the plans of the Prague architect Peter Loutka on behalf of the Smil Flaška of Pardubice.
