Geography

The Smoky Hill River has its origin in the High Plains in eastern Colorado, from where it flows in an easterly direction. The main river as well as the North Fork Smoky Hill River originate in Cheyenne County. Both streams take about 5 km west of Russell Springs each other in Logan County.
