History

First mention was the fishing village in 1555, but it is believed that the place was inhabited since the Middle Ages. The name is derived from Snogebæk Snobeck, the snake and the brook. The few inhabitants lived from livestock, agriculture and fisheries. The first port facility was built right on the coast in 1869, but the harbor silted up quickly. In 1888 they built a new island port, which is connected by an approximately 100 m long jetty with the place. ( Bornholm island, there are two ports, the other is located in Rønne. ) On both sides of the ridge can be seen sandstone benches today. The harbor is used in today mainly as dinghies and fishing port.

A larger growth experienced Snogebæk in the 19th century, emerged as new homes between otherwise very different farms. The north and the south in Balka at Bro emerged in the 1920s, large holiday home areas, attracted the tourist -oriented shops in the harbor area by itself.

Snogebæk now lives next to a still active fishing mainly from tourism.
