Soglio GR

Soglio ( German Sils im Bergell, Romansh Suogl? / I ) was a municipality in the district Bregaglia, district of Maloja in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. Soglio only has about 200 inhabitants, but has almost 20,000 overnight stays per year.

On 1 January 2010 the municipalities merged the Bergell ( Bondo, Castasegna, Soglio, Stampa and Vicosoprano ) to the new community Bregaglia.

Coat of arms

Description: In gold on a red shield with two silver foot piles an upright black, red reinforced Capricorn. The piles are taken from the arms of the Salis family, which was of great importance in the history of the church, while the Capricorn refers to the membership of the church covenant.

Area

Soglio consists of three parts: the located on the right side of the valley of Val Bregaglia main part of the village, the upper part of the Val Maroz with the Val Cam, uninhabited, little Val da la Duana and the Madris on north of the Alps.

Orography

The main part of the village and the Val da la Duana include orographic Val Bregaglia while the Madris, drained by the Rhine Madrischer and larger than the other areas of the town together, for the Rhine basin and belongs to the Alps north side.

A special feature of flows, a large part of the water of the Rhine Madrischer back via a mirror in the tunnel on Italian territory Lago di Lei and only then in the context of current production in the Avers Rhine, so in Switzerland.

Languages

In Soglio one speaks a dialect of Lombard. The official or school language is Italian. A minority of the population speaks German. The development of recent decades shows the following table:

Religions and denominations

1552 were the residents over to the Protestant doctrine.

Origin and nationality

From the end of 2005 counted 181 residents, 162 ( = 89 % ) Swiss nationals.

History

Soglio was settled very early. The current name was first mentioned in 1186. Soglio is home to the Grisons noble family of Salis, the codetermined centuries the fortunes of the region.
