Sonet Records, Sonet Grammofon AB also is a jazz and blues label, founded in Sweden in 1956.

History of Labels

Sonet Records was founded in 1957 by Sven Lindholm and Gunnar Bergström, who had previously built up a record - import business. 1960 was joined by Dag Häggquist, who had already begun 16 years with an older partner to import American jazz records; first album was Miles Davis ' Bluemoods, at this time the first 12-inch record on the Swedish market. In March 1957, Dag Häggquist produced a first EP with the American jazz trumpeter Benny Bailey; He also learned Rune Öfwermann know, a then popular in Sweden jazz pianist; with him, he founded the small label Gazell Records. Through a local record dealer, he learned finally Lindholm and Bergström know who had just started her Sonet label; they took over the jazz catalog from Gazelle Recordds; Dag Häggquist became a partner of the firm. With the rise of the record industry at the beginning of the 1960s they also had success with plates of Bill Haley. The label Sonet published alongside Scandinavian musicians like Alrune Rod, Svend Asmussen, Arne Domnerus, Rolf Ericson, Lars Gullin, Bengt Hallberg, Karin Krog numerous recordings American musicians such as Chet Baker, Ruby Braff, Bob Brookmeyer, Benny Carter, Don Cherry, al Cohn, Art Farmer, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Barney Kessel, Adam Makowicz, New York Contemporary Five, Archie Shepp, Zoot Sims Joey Tempest and Toots Thielemans, but also by Johnny Dyani with Mongezi Feza and Okay Temiz. In addition, many blues albums released on Sonet, such as Albert Collins, Lil'Ed Williams, Lonnie Mack and Lonnie Brooks.

Lindholm and Bergstrom led the company until the 1980s. 1990 Sonet' catalog was acquired by PolyGram in 1998 by the Universal Music Group.
