Southern California

SoCal ( engl. Southern California or abbreviated " SoCal " ) is the southern part of the U.S. state of California. Geographically, the border between northern and southern California is traditionally marked by the Tehachapi Mountains. Politically, Southern California is defined by the following eight counties: Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside, Ventura, Santa Barbara and Imperial. More than two-thirds of California residents live in Southern California.

In southern California are the major cities of Los Angeles and San Diego. Southern California is a great center for shipping and air travel, a popular tourist destination and the center of the American film industry ( Hollywood).

South of the border with Mexico are currently the Mexican states of Baja California and Baja California Sur in the geographic region of Lower California.
