Spiegel Online
Spiegel Online (in-house in upper case; short SPON ) is one of the most far-reaching German news websites. It was founded on 25 October 1994 as an online version of the news magazine Der Spiegel.
Business
Spiegel Online is operated by Spiegel Online GmbH. The management holds Katharina Borchert. The company belongs together with manager- magazin.de and Quality Channel to SPIEGELnet GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of the publisher. The editors of Spiegel Online and printed mirrors are spatially, personnel and entrepreneurial separately. Spiegel Online made in 2006 on a turnover of 15 million Euro two million euro profit. For 2011, the advertising revenue was noisy time online to approximately 30 million euros with a yield of over 10%.
Editing
The Mirror online editorial team has its headquarters in Hamburg. It is supported by freelance writers, as well as offices in Germany (including Berlin ) and abroad. History
Spiegel Online went online on 25 October 1994. This was the world's first Der Spiegel news magazine on the net. A day later, followed by the Time Magazine. However, the Internet address was www.spiegel.de until a year later used. Previously, Spiegel Online was to reach under http://hamburg.bda.de:800/bda/nat/spiegel/ or http://muenchen.bda.de/bda/nat/spiegel/. ( Boenisch 2006, 7)
The initial offer had little in common with the current. Initially, the page with selected articles from the printed mirror was fitted. To date, few articles from the printed mirror every week are available free online. 1995 then appeared in the " scanner " for the first time specifically written for the internet service products. Furthermore, Spiegel Online cooperated April 2010 to February 2012 with the Legal Tribune Online, a law magazine for lawyers and laymen interested in legal issues of knowledge and information provider Wolters Kluwer Germany.
On June 4, 2013, new mirror Online Home was introduced. In the main column now should be listed from the current mirror folder and linked the most important news. If you want to read the news in its full length, the terms of a subscription is required. It thus is a paywall.

Legal dispute over personal data
The Bundesgerichtshof ( BGH) held in a decision ( Az: VI ZR 243/ 08 and VI ZR 244/ 08) determined of 9 February 2010, that the archive of Mirror Online may continue to be stored articles, in which case of serious offenses, the offender be mentioned by name.
