Spoon (band)

Spoon ( spoon dt ) is an American indie rock band from Austin.

Band History

The band was founded in 1994 by Britt Daniel and Jim Eno. The name Spoon was chosen as a respectful salute to the German Krautrock band Can, who published a song of that name, the title song of the film was the knife, on their album Ege Bamyasi of 1972.

Spoon signed a contract with Elektra Records in 1998, but the contract was terminated after the release of A Series of Sneaks again. As a response to her dismissal Spoon released the EP The Agony of Laffitte in allusion to the Elektra executives Ron Laffitte. Finally they got a contract with Merge Records. Her work is sold to Matador Records in Europe, however. Publish the successor albums Spoon received increasing attention and recognition. Girls Can Tell, released in 2001, sold more copies than the previous two albums. Kill the Moonlight from the following year, a similar success.

In May 2005, their album Gimme Fiction, which gave them the final breakthrough appeared. In the official album charts so that they reached place 44 Ga Ga Ga Their next album, Ga Ga came in 2007 to the U.S. top 10 and was released in Germany on 10 July at the label ANTI- Records. 2009 saw the band's single Got Nuffin out. In early 2010 released their seventh album Transference and in the U.S. rose to position 4.

  • Spoon occurred frequently in late-night talk shows such as The Late Show with David Letterman, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Last Call with Carson Daly and the PBS show Austin City Limits on.
  • 2006 yielded Spoon soundtrack for the movie Stranger Than Fiction ( " Stranger than Fiction" ) with Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman.
  • Daniel Britt had a cameo appearance in the series Veronica Mars ( second season, twelfth episode), in which he depressed with his singing at karaoke arts and distributes its predecessor out of the bar.
  • I Turn My Camera On ( 2005) was heard in a short sequence on The Simpsons in the episode Down by Lisa.
