St. Albans (Victoria)

St. Albans is a suburb of the Australian city of Melbourne in the municipality of Brimbank City.

History

In St. Albans, many German emigrants were settled in 1954, among others. The emigrants were able to indicate where they wanted to work in Australia. Many of Hamburg, for example, had Melbourne desired because they linked the port with their homeland.

They received in St. Albans from the Australian state a land of about 1000 m². It was initially a wooden house built, which increased over the years and has been provided with Verblendsteinen. The emigrants had committed at least two years to work in Australia.

St. Albans developed into a suburb with national stores, such as German butchers and bakers, banks and shopping centers etc. were built.

With increasing prosperity, many emigrants left St. Albans; the increase in value of the land, which now often generously landscaped gardens had grown considerably over the years.
