The St. Cloud State University is a university in St. Cloud, Minnesota. With 17,000 students, it is the second largest university in Minnesota and is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.

History

In 1869 the St. Cloud Normal School was established, which initially trained teachers for primary schools and later also for high schools. In 1921 she was converted to the St. Cloud State Teachers College. 1957 was the university for St. Cloud State College and in 1975 finally to St. Cloud State University.

Today there are five faculties offer more than 200 undergraduate programs and 40 graduate programs. Currently, about 17,000 students are enrolled, which are divided into approximately 15,200 undergraduate students and approximately 1,800 graduate students. A total of about 1,100 students come from abroad.

Sports

The sports teams of the University Huskies hot and occur in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference on within the NCAA Division II. An exception are the Hockey teams that are represented in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association ( Division I). The men's team carries out their home games at Herb Brooks to National Hockey Center. The colors are cardinal red and black, the mascot is called Blizzard.

Known graduates

Numerous athletes managed by the St. Cloud State University in a professional league. Especially in hockey success has been achieved. Among the players who later played in the NHL, including Tyler Arnason, Frank Brimsek, Matt Cullen, Jeff Finger, Mark Hartigan, Bret Hedican, Ryan Malone, Andreas Nödl, Mark Parrish, Joe Motzko.

Other famous people who visited the college, are Richard Dean Anderson (Actor), Leo Kottke (musician ) and Nicole Linkletter ( winners at America's Next Top Model ).
