The Widzew Stadium is a stadium in the Polish city of Lodz. It can accommodate 10,500 spectators and serves the club Widzew Łódź as the venue for home games.

History

The Widzew stadium in Łódź, with just under 750,000 inhabitants to Warsaw and Krakow, the third largest city in Poland, was built in 1930 and opened on 30 May of the same year. Since then, the local club Widzew Łódź plays its home games from this stadium. Widzew was until today four times Polish champion, most recently in 1997. Moreover, the association of Polish Cup winner was once and made ​​it to the semi-finals of the European Cup of Champions of the 1982 season / 83. Ludwik Sobolewski (1925-2008) was a former President of Widzew Łódź. In the stadium, some matches of the Polish national football team have already taken place. Between 1990 and 2010 games were played here seven countries, including both a qualifying match for the World Cup 1994 against San Marino ( 1-0) and one for the World Championships in 2002 against Belarus ( 3-1 ).
