The station was opened on 31 August 2011, together with the branch line between the stations at Stratford International and Canning Town. The railroad history dates back more than a century and half: 1846, between the stations of Stratford and Canning Town, the Eastern Counties and Thames Junction Railway opened; to its temporary closure in 1973 it was at the Star Lane never a railway station. Also the 1979-2006 circulating on this four-lane section of North London Line drove through without stopping.

In summer 2012, during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the station recorded above-average ridership. Set in a warehouse of a former glass factory in the immediate vicinity was the Uniform Distribution and Accreditation Centre, the central Accreditation and uniform transfer point for the more than 70,000 volunteers.
