Stellaland (official Dutch Republiek Stellaland ) was a short-lived Boer republic. Founded in 1882, the Republic Stella country united after two years with the Republic of Goshen to the United States of Stellaland

At Stellaland the British protectorate of Bechuanaland in the north and west and the South African Republic bordered to the east and south. Today, the area is part of the Republic of South Africa.

History

Stella country owed ​​its existence to a conflict between the local tribes and the Batlaping the Korana. David Massouw, the leader of the Korana, had promised a group of about 400 Boers settlement land in return for support in fighting the Batlaping. After defeating them, the republic was officially founded on July 26, 1882.

First and only President of the Republic was Gerrit Jacobus van Niekerk ( 1849-1896 ). The Boers, a commission that staked out the territory of the future capital of Vryburg and exactly 416 plots. These plots were then distributed via a lottery.

The Republic Stella country was divided into five Feldkornetschaften:
