United States of Stellaland

The United States of Stellaland (Dutch Verenigde Staten van Stellaland ) were a short-lived Boer republic. It was created in 1883 by the union of the Republic Stellaland with the Republic of Goshen. 1885, the government of Great Britain was annexed, today the area is part of the South African North-West Province.

Geography

Stellaland comprised 15,490 km ² in 1882 still with 20,500 inhabitants (of which 3,000 whites) and 10.4 thousand km ² Goshen with 17,000 inhabitants (of which 2,000 whites). By the Treaty of London of February 27, 1884 between the South African Republic and Great Britain had to be ceded to the Republic of South Africa 2990 km ² in the southeast Stella Lands and 3610 km ² in the east Goshens. The capital was Vryburg.

History

On August 7, 1883, the Republic Stellaland united with the Republic of Goshen and formed with it the United States of Stellaland.

After a South African attempt to annex the entire country Stella, had failed, in 1885, British troops occupied under Sir Charles Warren Stellaland and annexed the United States of Stellaland on September 30, 1885 as a Crown Colony of Bechuanaland.
