Stéphane Morin

Stéphane Morin ( born March 27, 1969 in Montreal, Quebec; † October 6, 1998 in Oberhausen, Germany ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. During his career he played for the Quebec Nordiques and Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League as well as the Berlin Capitals in the DEL.

Career

Morin played with three years from 1986 to 1989 in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, including one year at the Shawinigan Cataractes de and two at the Sagueneens de Chicoutimi. In his last season in which he scored 186 points in 70 games, he was voted most valuable player in the league.

After the center in the NHL Entry Draft in 1989 was selected by the Quebec Nordiques in the third round at 43 position, he was awarded the 1989/90 season his first professional contract. In the following three seasons of Canadians played 84 NHL games for the Nordiques, but was ever present on the farm team in the American Hockey League action. After the discharge of his contract Morin joined as a free agent with the Vancouver Canucks, where he only sporadically came to inserts in the NHL between 1992 and 1994. From the 1994/95 season Morin ran exclusively in the International Hockey League on at various clubs. There he managed the Leo P. Lamoureux immediately Memorial Trophy, to win the title for the best points scorer of the league.

For the season 1998/99 Morin changes to Europe and signed a contract with the Berlin Capitals of the DEL, where he was engaged as one of the key members of the squad. On October 6, 1998 by championship game against the Revierlöwen Oberhausen, he collapsed on the bench and suffered a fatal cardiac arrest.
