Østermarie

Østermarie is a small village with 482 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013) on the Danish Baltic Sea island of Bornholm. Østermarie is located approximately four kilometers southeast of Østerlars and about nine kilometers west of Svaneke.

Built in the 12th century St. Mary's Church, Østermarie Kirke gave the place its name. In 1891 she was torn a part and replaced by a new building.

The village is located in the same parish ( Østermarie Sogn ), which belonged to the Office Harde Øster Herred in the former Bornholm to 1970. With the dissolution of the hardware structure of the parish was included in the municipality Allinge - Gudhjem, the municipality in turn went to a popular decision on 1 January 2003 with other municipalities in the region Bornholm municipality. Between 2003 and 2007 this was acyclic, since 1 January 2007, it is part of the Capital Region.

Østermarie was from 1916 to 1952 a railway station on the route of the Company Alminding - Gudhjem Jernbaneselskab A / S ( AGJ ), connecting the ports of Ronne and Gudhjem.
