Steve Shagan

Stephen H. Shagan ( born October 25, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York City ) is an American novelist, screenwriter and film producer.

Life

Steve Shagan is the son of Rachel Rosenzweig and Barnard H. Shagan. After he had to leave high school early, he joined during the Second World War, the United States Coast Guard. During this time he began writing. With his wife Elizabeth Florance " Betty " Ricker, whom he married in 1956, in 1958 he moved to Hollywood, where he had several auxiliary job. He worked in smaller theaters and was, among other cable carriers at the MGM studios. Later, he managed to write screenplays with and to work as a producer for the television series filmed in Mexico Tarzan. However, he listened to the advice of his wife again so on and focused entirely on writing from now on.

With Save the Tiger Shagan debuted in 1972, finally as a writer. Just a year later appeared with Jack Lemmon and Jack Gilford in the lead roles, the film adaptation of the same name of his satire. For the adaptation of his own book, he was nominated for the Academy Awards in 1974 for Best Original Screenplay. For the film of the novel Voyage of the Damned, he shared with David Butler, in addition to a Golden Globe nomination for Best Screenplay in 1977 his second Oscar nomination. This time in the category Academy Award / Best Adapted Screenplay. For the adaptation of his own novel The formula he received at the presentation of negative Film Awards Golden Raspberry Awards in 1981 as both Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay for each nomination.
