Å tiavnik

Štiavnik (Slovak 1927-1946 Štavník; Hungarian Trencsénselmec - to 1907 Styávnik ) is a municipality in Okres Bytča in the area of ​​Žilinský in Slovakia, with about 4,000 inhabitants.

The municipality is located in Javorníky Mountains of the same name Štiavnik Brook, elongated from north to south. The north part of the town center is protected as part of the conservation area Kysuca; there are also numerous individual settlements ( Slow Kopanice ). About eleven kilometers northwest of the community rises Mount Velky Javorník ( 1072 m nm). The city is Bytča in the twelve kilometers to the southeast and Považska Bystrica 20 km to the south.

Štiavnik was first mentioned in writing in 1417, then in 1439 as Sczewnyk and was colonized by Vlachs. She belonged to the reign of Považská Bystrica. The population engaged in agriculture, forestry and weaving.

Administratively divided the municipality into districts Čierne, Predjastrabie, Štiavnik and Višňové.
