Stipe Drews

Stipe Drvis, in Germany known as Stipe Drews, ( born June 8 1973 in Makarska, Croatia SR ) is a retired Croatian professional boxer and world champion in the light heavyweight division after version of the WBA Association.

Amateur

As an amateur Drvis took part in the 1996 European Championships in Vejle, but lost the third battle against the Italian Pietro Aurino, who eventually won the European Championship. In the same year he was nominated for the Olympic Games in Atlanta. After he was able to defeat the Uzbeks Timur Ibragimov in the second round, he lost in the quarterfinals of the South Korean representative Lee Seung- bae. His participation in the Amateur World Championships 1997 in Budapest brought him little success, he failed already in the first round. The Adriatic Games In 1997 he was runner-up, the Croatian national champion title he won six times. Drvis get as an amateur boxer 90 victories in 100 battles.

Professional career

The southpaw Drvis began his professional career in 1999. On 8 February 2003, he was a points victory over the Italian Silvio Branco European champion in the light heavyweight division. Originally Thomas Ulrich was provided as Branco opponent after Ulrich but had to cancel due to injury a few hours before the fight, Drvis jumped a short term and secured the vacant title.

After three title defenses, he laid the belt down, however, to fight in an eliminator for the WBC fight against Australian Paul Briggs. In this battle on August 15, 2004 Drvis was then but three times to the ground, as well as three points to him were withdrawn because of knee and head knocks, so he clearly defeated on points after twelve rounds.

After three body fights he punched again on 7 January 2006 for the vacant European title, beating Antonio Brancalion from Italy on points. He defended the belt in May 2006 against Kai Kurzawa and was scheduled for a re- eliminator of the WBC. His opponent was to be the undefeated American Chad Dawson. The fight was canceled and Drews should now be on February 24, 2007 fight against WBA champion Silvio Branco. This fight was because of mild flu from at Stipe Drvis. On 28 April 2007, the battle in Oberhausen was rescheduled, which Stipe Drvis won on points for themselves and thus new world champion on the version of the WBA was.

16 December 2007 Stipe Drvis boxed in Perth against Danny Green. Drvis lost his WBA belt back into the first title defense since he clearly defeated the Australians over twelve rounds on points.

Personal

Stipe Drvis, which is also called " spider man " because of his quickness and long arms, is 1.96 meters tall. His hometown is Croatian Pula, for which he also plays basketball in the second highest league in Croatia. However, he lives in Hamburg and trained there with Michael Timm, manager at Universum Box-Promotion and himself a former European champion in the light middleweight (1985). The trained auto mechanics is married and has one daughter.
