Subarnapur district

Subarnapur (also Sonepur Sonepur or ) is a district in the west of the eastern Indian state of Odisha. Administrative center is the city Subarnapur. The area is 2284.4 km ². There are only three cities: Sonepur, Binika and Tarbha, so that the degree of urbanization of 7.4 % is very low. The population density is about 237 inhabitants / km ².

The district was formed on 1 April 1993 by the removal from the district of Balangir.

Geography

Subarnapur located in the center Odishas, bordering the districts of Sambalpur, Boudh, Balangir and Bargarh.

Population

In the district lived in the year 2001 541.835 inhabitants, of whom 50.8 % were men and 49.2% women. The vast majority of the population ( 99.38 %) is Hindu, Islam and Christianity play only a minor role, each of approximately 0.3%.
