Sukowice

Suckowitz, Polish Sukowice, is a village in the municipality Czissek ( Cisek ) in the powiat Kędzierzyńsko - Kozielski in the Opole Voivodeship.

Geography

Suckowitz located 3 km southwest of the municipal center Czissek, 10 km south of the county town Kędzierzyn -Koźle ( Kędzierzyn - Cosel ) and 48 km south of the voivodship Opole in Upper Silesia region.

History

In 1402 the village was created as a manor and Vorwerk Sukowitz was called. However, there is an earlier mention of 1293 as Sucowicz.

In the referendum on March 20, 1921 137 voters voted to remain in Germany and 72 for Poland. Suckowitz remained with the German Reich. From 1933 the new Nazi rulers led by large-scale renaming of place names of Slavic origin. 1936, the town was renamed in mill base. By 1945, the place was in the district of Cosel.

In 1945 the previously German place under Polish administration, was renamed Sukowice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950, the town was part of the Opole Voivodeship and 1999 of the re-established powiat Kędzierzyńsko - Kozielski. On 11 October 2007, the City also received the official German place names Suckowitz, in September 2008 bilingual town signs were erected.
