Suleiman Nyambui

Suleiman Nyambui ( born February 13, 1953) is a former Tanzanian athlete who won an Olympic silver medal in the 5000 -meter run in 1980.

Nyambui finished in 1974 at the Commonwealth Games in Christchurch over 5000 meters in 13:34,91 min fourth place. Four years later he won at the Africa Games in Algiers bronze in 13:49,60 min. A month later, he finished at the Commonwealth Games in 1978 in Edmonton fifth place both over 5000 meters in 13:34,1 min and 10,000 meters in 28:56,7 min. 1979 ran Nyambui in Stockholm in 13:12,29 min the fastest race of his career and was the world's annual Best.

At the Olympic Games in 1980 Nyambui started the sprint from the Finns Kaarlo Maaninka and was min with six tenths of a second behind the Ethiopians Miruts Yifter second in 13:21,6. On February 6, 1981 Nyambui ran into 13:20,4 min indoor world record in New York City.

From 1978 to 1982 Nyambui studied at the University of Texas at El Paso. During this time he won three championships and four NCAA over 5000 in the 10,000 meters. In the second half of the 1980s Nyambui ran in international road races and on the marathon course. In 1987 and 1988 he won the Berlin Marathon and was the first African to have won this competition. Also in 1988 he won the Kassel city run, the Stockholm Marathon and the night of Borgholzhausen. He was fifth in the London Marathon with his personal record of 2:09:52 h, and second in the Hamburg Marathon 1989. In 1990, he finished fourth in 1991 and second in the Lake Biwa Marathon.

At a height of 1.82 m Weight 68 kg Nyambuis was competition. Nyambui is now general secretary of the Tanzania Association of Athletics Federations Tanzania Amateur Athletic Association.
