SUNSAT

SunSat ( Stellenbosch University Satellite, also OSCAR 35) is the first South African satellite. It is a technology testing and amateur radio satellite, which was built and operated by the University of Stellenbosch.

SunSat served to demonstrate new and proven technologies in the fields of earth observation, satellite control and geosciences. In addition, there was an amateur radio payload onboard.

SunSat was launched on 23 February 1999 with a Delta II from SLC -2W Vandenberg AFB along with the ARGOS satellite for the U.S. Air Force and Ørsted. He was in operation until January 2001.
