Suphanburi

Suphanburi ( in Thai สุพรรณบุรี ) is the capital of the province of Suphanburi. The Suphanburi province is located in the western part of central Thailand. Suphanburi is also the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Suphanburi.

Geography

Suphanburi is located about 90 kilometers north- west of Bangkok on Maenam Tha Chin ( Tha Chin River ). From the old town are on the right bank of the remains present, the modern town lies on the left bank.

History

Suphanburi is a very old city, which was already mentioned in ancient Buddhist chronicles. Some historians believe that the legendary Suvarnabhumi is said to have been found here. The city was probably in the Dvaravati period 877-882 founded on the left bank of the Maenam Tha Chin named Phanchum Buri.
