Sursk

Sursk (Russian Сурск ) is a small town in Penza Oblast (Russia) with 7034 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city lies about 90 km east of Oblasthauptstadt Pensa on the left bank of the Sura, a right tributary of the Volga.

Sursk located in Rajon Gorodischtsche.

The city is located near the railway line Ryazhsk - Pensa - Sysran ( station Assejewskaja ).

History

A place of site of the present town was built near the old village Nikolskoje 1849 under the name of Nikolski Chutor in connection with the construction of a major weaving.

During the Second World War, a machine factory from Wyschni Wolotschok was relocated in the western part of the Soviet Union after Sursk. In August 1953, the site received the present name ( after the river ) the municipal law.

Economy

City -forming enterprise is the weaving Surskaja manufaktura (former textile combine ). In the weaving were, inter alia, the canvases for the panorama Stalingrad battle in Volgograd (1982 ) and for the Peasants' War Panorama in Bad Frankenhausen ( Germany ) woven.

In addition, there are companies in the food industry.
