Svatá Maří

Svatá Maří, (1976-1989: Maří, German St. Magdalena ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located 13 kilometers north-west of Prachatice and belongs to Okres Prachatice.

Geography

Svatá Maří is located north of Boubín massif in the Bohemian Forest. The village is situated on the southwestern foot of the Mářský vrch (905 m) above the valley of the creek Bořanovický.

Neighboring towns are Štítkov in the north, Brdo in the northeast, Lštění in the east, and Nedvíkov Šumavské Hoštice the southeast, Vícemily in the south, Trhonín, Bláhov and Vimperk in the southwest, Boubská in the west and Bořanovice in the northwest.

History

The first written mention of the village Ad S. Marie in Laz, including St. Maria Magdalena church consecrated dating back to 1352. The founding of the village was carried out in the course of colonization activities of the Lords of Čestice.

1414 Kaplanat was established in Laz Marie. Today's local name Svatá Maří be traced back to 1543. After the Battle of White Mountain, the village fell to the royal exchequer, from which it acquired in 1622 Jindřich Michal Hýzrl Chodov. In 1650 the village consisted of only six houses and the church. In the period around 1700, several major fire destroyed parts of the village. Svatá Maří grew during the 18th century. 1790 were 24 houses in the village. In 1840 the city had 183 inhabitants, living in 29 houses. After the replacement of patrimonial created in 1850 the municipality Svatá Maří to which the villages Dvorec, Libotyne, Lštění, Smrčná and Štítkov were connected. Later Libotyne Štítkov and formed independent communities. 1936 an observation tower was built on the Mářský vrch on the initiative of the minister of Malenice, František Teplý built.

In 1970, Svatá Maří 223 inhabitants. On April 30, 1976, the word was Svatá ( = holy), removed from the place names during the communist regime, and it was renamed in Maří. Since 1 January 1990, the city bears his old name again. 1980 Štítkov was amalgamated with the districts and Smrčná Brdo after Maří. In the same year, the population was 210, the current mayor, František Scherer since 1986 in office.

The municipality Svatá Maří consists of the districts Brdo, Smrčná ( Fichtenheid ) Štítkov ( Stitkau ) Svatá Maří (St. Magdalene), Trhonín ( Terhonin ) and Vícemily ( Wetzmühl ) and the local situation Bláhov.
