Tablelands Region

Geography

The region is located in the north of the state in the south of the Cape York Peninsula about 1400 km north of the capital Brisbane and 40 km west of Cairns.

Administrative headquarters of the LGA is Mareeba with about 10 200 inhabitants. The region includes the following districts and towns: Almaden, Amber, Arriga, Atherton, Barrine, Barwidgi, Beatrice, Bellevue, Biboohra, Bolwarra, Butchers Creek, Carrington, Chewko, Chillagoe, Crystal Brook, Danbulla, Desailly, Dimbulah, East Barron, Ellinjaa, Evelyn, Forty Mile, Fossil Brook, Gadgarra, Gamboola, Glen Allyn Glen Russell, Glen Ruth, Groganville, Gunnawarra, Herberton, Hurricane, Innot Hot Springs, Irvinebank, Jaggan, Julatten, Kaban, Kairi, Kalunga, Kirrama, Koah, Koombooloomba, Kuranda, Kureen, Lake Barrine, Lake Eacham, Lake Tinaroo, Lyndside, Maalan, Malanda, Mareeba, Middlebrook, Millaa Millaa, Millstream, Minbun, Minnamoolka, Mona Mona Moomin, Moregatta, Mount Carbine, Mount Garnet Mount Molloy Mount Mulligan, Munderra, mung Alli, North Johnstone, Nychum, Paddy Green, Palmerston, Peeramon, Petford, Ravenshoe, Silver Valley, South Edge, Speewah, Springfield, Tarzali, Thornborough, Tinaroo, Tolga, Topaz, Tumoulin, Upper Barron, Wairuna, Walkamin, Watsonville, Wondecla, Wongabel, Wrotham and Yungaburra.

History

Today Tablelands Region was founded in 2008 from the four Shires Atherton, Eacham, Herberton and Marreba.

Management

The Tablelands Regional Council has nine members. Eight Councillor elected by the residents of the eight divisions ( constituencies ). The Council President and Mayor ( Mayor ) is also elected by all residents of the region.
