Taha Akgül

Taha Akgül (born 22 November 1990) is a Turkish wrestler. It was 2012, 2013 and 2014 European champion in free style at heavyweight.

Career

Taha Akgül began as a teenager with the rings, where he focused on the free style. He starts for the club Izmir B.B. and since the 2011/12 season in the German Bundesliga for SV Germania Weingarten. Since the 2013/2014 season, he is the ASV Nendingen under contract. At a size of 1.92 meters, it stands in the heavyweight division, where he, however, the maximum permissible weight of 120 kg does not quite exploits with a weight of 110 kg. He is a student.

His international career began in 2010. He finished this year at the Mediterranean Games in Istanbul behind compatriot Fatih Cakiroglu the 2nd place. He also came at the Junior European Championships in Samokov / Bulgaria to 5th place and finished at the Junior World Championships behind Muradin Kuschchow from Ukraine 2nd place.

In the Turkish Cup 2011 he came behind Recep Kara, but before Fatih Cakiroglu to 2nd place. In international championships but he came in 2011 not yet used. In March 2012, he was employed by the Turkish Wrestling Federation at the European Championships in Belgrade. He could fully convince and with victories over Predrag Budic from Serbia, Nick Matuhin from Germany, Bachtijar Schachabutdinowitsch Akhmedov of Russia, Igar Dschatko from Belarus and Daniel Ligeti win the European title from Hungary there.

The ticket to the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he fought his way then by a second place behind Daniel Ligeti at the tournament in Sofia. At the Olympic Games itself, he won first about Alexander Chozianiwski from Ukraine, but lost in his second fight against Biljal Machów from Russia. Since this did not reach the final, he left and came in 8th place. The 2012 season, he joined then but starting with another title. He was in Kuortane / Finland universities world champion before Parvis Hadi from Iran.

2013 was again with victories over Jamaladdin Magomedov, Azerbaijan, Dimitar Kumtschew, Bulgaria, Daniel Ligeti and Alen Sassejew, Ukraine European champion in the heavyweight Taha Akgül in Tbilisi. At the World Championships this year in Budapest, he defeated Christos Nyfadopoulos from Greece, but then lost quite clearly against Alen Sassejew, but then secured with wins over Florian Temengil, PLW, Jamaladdin Magomedov, Azerbaijan and Tervel Dlagnev, USA, still a World Cup bronze medal.

At the European Championships in 2014, which was held in Vantaa / Finland he dominated his weight class with confidence. With victories over Galstjan Andranik, Armenia, Vadim Shvedov, Belarus, Aleksander Chozianiwski, Ukraine and Alan Lawrentjewitsch Chugajew, Russia, he won his third European title in a row.
