Taitung County

The Taitung County (Chinese台东县, Pinyin Taidong Xiàn, Tongyong Pinyin Taidong Sian, W.-G. T ` ai -tion Hsien, PEH oē - jī Tâi -tang koan ) is a district of the Republic of China on Taiwan. It is located in the southeast of the island of Taiwan and adjacent to the Pingtung County in the southwest, the city of Kaohsiung in the northwest, the Hualien County in the north and the Pacific Ocean to the east. Its capital is the city of Taitung.

Geography

The Taitung County takes on 166 km length, a the southern part of the east coast of Taiwan. North of the capital Taitung extends parallel to the coast extending and separated from it by an up to 1682 m high mountain range Huatung Trench. The western part of the county is part of the central mountain range of Taiwan. There lies on the northwestern border of the circuit to the Yushan National Park belonging to 3686 m high Guan Shan (关 山), the highest point of the district.

For Taitung County includes about 30 or 60 km off the coast lying Pacific islands Lü Dao ( " Green Island " ) and Lan Yu ( " Orchid Island ").

Population
