Chiayi County

The Chiayi County (Chinese嘉义 县, Pinyin Xiàn Jiayi, Jiayi Tongyong Pinyin Sian, W.-G. Chia -i Hsien ) is a district of the Republic of China on Taiwan. It is located in the west of the island of Taiwan and surrounding the city of Chiayi, which was spun off in 1982 from the county and received the status of an independent city. Since then, the county government is located in the western city of Chiayi Taibao.

Geography

The Chiayi County Yunlin County is located between the north and the Tainan County in the south. To the west it borders the Formosastraße, on the northeast by the Nantou County and in the southeast the city of Kaohsiung.

The western part of the county is part of the Jianan level, the largest level in Taiwan. To the east lies the tourist potential through the Alishan Forest Railway Alishan Mountains. At its eastern tip of Chiayi County extends to the Yushan, the highest mountain in Taiwan with 3,952 m. The eastern corner of the county of Chiayi area is part of Yushan National Park.

The current as a boundary between the subtropical and tropical climatic zone Tropic of Cancer runs through the midst of Chiayi County.

In addition, there are two townships (镇, zhen ) and 14 rural communities (乡, Xiang ). Most populated municipality of the district of Chiayi is with 72 705 inhabitants Minxiong north of Chiayi City.
