The Talgang is a 566.1 m above sea level. NN high mountain forest in the basement in Waldeck- Frankenberg, Hesse ( Germany ). Geographical location

The Talgang is located in the western part of North Hesse in the southern part of the National Park basement Edersee, whose territory is almost congruent with the Eder heights. While the Quernstkirche was probably consecrated bishop Quirinus, since she was Winfried Boniface, of from 718 - among others in Hessen and in the area of the basement Forest - missionary and preached the Gospel, subordinate to the Pope. Documented it was first mentioned in 1230. The Quernstkirche served in the Middle Ages as a pilgrimage church and in the 16th century as a place of worship with its own walled cemetery for the people of the aforementioned places ( Frankenau, Altenlotheim and Frebershausen ), Asel, bring- and Gellershausen. Every year on May 3, the day of the alleged finding of the Cross of Christ ( in the year 326), a market was held on the church building. It is believed that the Quernstkirche was abandoned as a result of the local Reformation (1527 ), after which the decline began and took place the last service in 1570. Already in 1590 it was noted on a map as a ruin, but still should have been in 1860, the six -meter high ruins of the two church towers.

The Quernstkirche was probably not deliberately destroyed, but the inhabitants of the area used the stones of the church building and cemetery wall until their normal expiration as material for other buildings. Today, earthworks and exposed remains of walls are still visible.

Today Quernstkapelle

After a church interested group had to the establishment of a place of worship on the treeless plateau, where once the Quernstkirche stood, trying the " Quernstkapelle " was built near the ruins of the former church building as a new chapel. It consists of stone walls with greywacke and wood. It was inaugurated ( 1st Advent ) with a small prayer room on 3 December 2006. In addition, the building contains a shelter for hikers.

Pfaffenwald

The area of the former Quernstkirche called Pfaffenwald, which was planted in the early 20th century nationwide with spruce.
