TÃ¥rnby Municipality

Tårnby Kommune is a municipality in the Danish Capital Region southeast of Copenhagen on the central part of the island of Amager. Tårnby itself is part of the Capital Region Hovedstadsområdet, but not the rural portions of the municipality. But live outside the closed settlement area only 366 of the 41 572 inhabitants of the municipality (as of 1 January 2013).

The municipality has a size of 66.10 km ². To her belongs the district Kastrup, which houses the Copenhagen Airport ( Københavns Lufthavn, Kastrup ) and the Birds Island Island Saltholm and the artificial island Peberholm. The latter two islands do not belong to Hovedstadsområdet.

The Oresund connection begins on Amager as a tunnel under the Drogden fairway ( Drogdentunnel ) to come on the artificial island Peberholm back to the surface and continue to the actual Öresund Bridge. Both bus and train services, as well as a metro to connect the community with the Danish capital.

West of Tårnby is the 1940-1945 heaped, 25 km ² area Kalvebodstrand. It is a breeding place for many bird species.

Partnerships

The Tårnby municipality maintains a three-way partnership with the Norwegian community Skedsmo and the Swedish municipality Alingsås. After the incorporation of the Finnish town of Karis in the community Raseborg January 1, 2009, the partnership has ended with the three remaining communities of the Finnish side.
