Taasinge is a Danish island south of Funen ( Fyn German ). The island's name comes from the former designations Thor Thor Inge or tightness (probably bed of Thor). It has 6174 inhabitants (1 January 2013). The two largest cities on Tåsinge are Vindeby and Svendborg.

The island is divided into three parish communities (Danish: Sogn ) to: from north to south Bregninge Sogn, lands Sogn Sogn and Bjerreby. By 1970 they belonged to Harde Sund Herred in the former Svendborg office, then to the Svendborg municipality in the County of Funen, which in turn has been addressed in the context of local government reform on 1 January 2007 in the enlarged Svendborg municipality in the region Syddanmark.

Geography

The island has an area of ​​about 70 km ². Between Taasinge and the Fyn Svendborg runs. To the west of the island, between the island and Ærø Taasinge, lie the small islands Skarø, Drejø, Hjortø Birkholm, Egholm Store and Lille Egholm. To the west of the island is the Tåsinge Vejle, a shallow lagoon. South of Taasinge is the small island Strynø addition to the even smaller Strynø Kalv, southeast of the small island of SiO and east the much larger island of Langeland. To the northeast is the island of Tåsinge Thurø.

Culture and sights

Tåsinge the Valdemar's Castle, a castle that King Christian IV 1639-1644 for his son Waldemar Christian ( 1622-1656 ) is was built.

In the cemetery of lands (Danish: lands kirkegård ) are Elvira Madigan and Sixten Sparre buried, one of the most famous love couples in Scandinavia, in the Nørreskov (northern forest ) had been found shot dead in 1889.

Located along the west of the island Tåsinge Vejle, a lagoon with an average depth of only 0.6 meters, houses primarily for hatching time, many species of birds that can be observed from a hut in the east of the wetland.

Transport and Infrastructure

In the north of the island is connected by the Svendborgsundbroen with Svendborg, Fyn. In the southeast the Siøsundbroen leads to the island of Sio. From there, the Langelandsbroen leads to Langeland.
