Teemu Sippo

Teemu Jyrki Juhani Sippo SCI ( born May 20, 1947 in Lahti, Finland) is a Finnish clergyman and religious Roman Catholic Bishop of Helsinki.

Life

Teemu Sippo was born into a Lutheran family. In 1966 he converted to the Roman Catholic Church. On October 11, 1970 Sippo put his profession in the Congregation of the Dehonians. The priest He was ordained on 28 May 1977 having previously studied Catholic theology at the Albert -Ludwigs- University of Freiburg. His thesis was on "The Principle of Protestantism in Paul Tillich ," which was supervised by Karl Lehmann. He then worked in Helsinki and Jyväskylä. In 2008, he was appointed Diocesan Administrator of the only Catholic Diocese of Finland, after the former Bishop Józef Wróbel SCI was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Lublin.

Pope Benedict XVI. Teemu Sippo appointed on 16 June 2009 to the bishop of the Diocese of Helsinki. This Sippo became the first native Finns, who held the Catholic Episcopate in Helsinki. He received his episcopal consecration, his former academic teacher, Bishop of Mainz Cardinal Karl Lehmann, on 5 September 2009 at the Cathedral of Turku. Co-consecrators were Józef Wróbel SCI, Auxiliary Bishop of Lublin, and Czeslaw Kozon, Bishop of Copenhagen. The motto is "Christ fons vitae" ( Christ, source of life).

He is Grand Prior of the Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Finland grave in Jerusalem.
