Ternuay-Melay-et-Saint-Hilaire

Ternuay - Melay -et -Saint -Hilaire is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Ternuay - Melay -et -Saint -Hilaire is situated at an altitude of 358 m above sea level, 15 km northeast of Lure and about 24 km northwest of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the eastern part of the department, at the top Ognon, in the south-western Vosges, at the edge of the Plateau des Mille Étangs.

The area of ​​25.74 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the south-western Vosges. From northeast to southwest, the area is crossed by the Alluvialniederung Ognon. The flat alluvial plain is on average 350 meters and has a width of approximately one kilometer. It is used primarily for agricultural purposes. The municipal area takes the Ognon from east to Ruisseau de la Montagne and the Ruisseau Jeannot, from west to Ruisseau du Bois du Frahier on.

Flanked the valley of the Ognon on its western side from the Plateau des Mille Étangs. The plateau is a loose structure of forest, grassland, heathland and bogs. It reaches an average height of 500 m. In hollows are numerous small lakes which are mostly natural origin and during the ice age caused by glacial striation. Some were also dammed and used for fish farming. In the west, the municipality's area extends to the headwaters of the Ruisseau de la Mer, another tributary of the Ognon. The northern parts are occupied by the forest heights of the Bois du Frahier and the Bois Saint- Hilaire ( 574 m).

East of Ognon Valley of the densely wooded hillside rises steeply to the heights of Montagne de face, which forms the watershed between the valley of the Raddon. With 870 m is reached on the top of the Bois du Sapoz in the far east, the highest point of Ternuay - Melay -et -Saint -Hilaire. Exist in geological- tectonic respect the heights mainly of crystalline bedrock, in the higher elevations and colored sandstone of the Lower Triassic is encountered.

  • Ternuay (340 m ) on both sides of the Ognon
  • Melay ( 455 m) on the Plateau des Mille Étangs
  • Saint- Hilaire ( 479 m) in the valley of the Ruisseau du Bois du Frahier on the Plateau des Mille Étangs

Neighboring communities of Ternuay - Melay -et -Saint -Hilaire are Faucogney -et -la -Mer in the north, Servance in the east, face, Belonchamp and Mélisey in the south and Écromagny in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Ternuay belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had initially served the Lords of Faucogney; 1339 to 1553 the village belonged to the barony Mélisey. Together with the Franche -Comté Ternuay came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. To a field change occurred in 1806 when the three previously independent municipalities Ternuay (1800: 700 inhabitants), Melay (1800: 157 inhabitants) and Saint- Hilaire (1800: 141 inhabitants ) merged.

In the 19th century granite was mined and processed at Ternuay. The factory ceased its activities in 1900. With the opening of the tram of Lure by La Bresse (1895 ) Ternuay was connected to the network of public transport. The operation of the line, however, was set at the beginning of World War II again. Today Ternuay - Melay -et -Saint -Hilaire is a member of the 12 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes de la Haute Vallée de l' Ognon.

Attractions

The Church of Ternuay was rebuilt in the 19th century with a huge square tower. For notable appointments include the remains of an altar from the 17th century, a richly carved sculpture from the 18th century and an altar from the 19th century. From the period after the French Revolution, the obelisk dates back to the village square in front of the Mairie ( Town Hall). About the Ognon performs a three-arched stone bridge ( 1920 ). The Chapel at Saint- Hilaire was built in the 18th century. In the municipality there are several Calvaires from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Population

With 520 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Ternuay - Melay -et -Saint -Hilaire is one of the smaller towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 1184 people were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1980s.

Economy and infrastructure

Ternuay - Melay -et -Saint -Hilaire was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( dairy farming, animal husbandry and agriculture ), forestry and fish farming embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses, especially in the sectors of wood processing and precision engineering. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Lure via Mélisey according to La Bresse. Further road links exist with Faucogney -et -la -Mer and Écromagny.
