Terrence W. Wilcutt

Terrence Wade Wilcutt (born 31 October 1949 in Russellville, Kentucky, United States) is an American astronaut.

Wilcutt 1974 received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Western Kentucky University and then was a mathematics teacher at a high school before he entered the United States Marine Corps in 1976. He was trained as a pilot and used at bases in Hawaii, Japan, South Korea and the Philippines.

From 1983 to 1986 Wilcutt pilot trainer for the fighter aircraft was F-18 Hornet. He then worked as a test pilot at the Naval Aircraft Test Center at Patuxent River ( Maryland).

Astronauts activity

In January 1990 Wilcutt was selected as astronaut candidate by NASA and then arranged for shuttle pilots. He is currently Deputy Director of the Department of Safety and Mission Assurance at the Johnson Space Center.

STS -68

On September 30, 1994 Wilcutt flew as a pilot with the space shuttle Endeavour for the first time into space. STS -68 was the second flight of the Space Radar Laboratory. The two main instruments on board were the SIR-C/X-SAR ( Shuttle Imaging Radar-C/X-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar) and MAPS (Measurement of Air Pollution from Satellites ). On October 11, the space shuttle landed at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

STS -79

STS -79 was launched on 16 September 1996 Mir Space Station from Kennedy Space Center, where the mission ended again later. The Space Shuttle Atlantis was docked four days at the space station. In this mission, the Mir crew member Shannon Lucid, John Blaha of which flew back with STS -81 was replaced. After the exchange of supplies and experiments, the space shuttle returned after ten days on September 26 back to Earth.

STS -89

On January 23, launched in 1998 Wilcutt as commander of the shuttle Endeavour to the space station Mir. An object of the mission was to share the on-board the Mir U.S. astronauts David A. Wolf against Andrew SW Thomas. In addition, scientific equipment and supplies were brought to me.

STS -106

September 8th 2000, launched Wilcutt as commander of the Space Shuttle Atlantis to the International Space Station ( ISS). Main tasks of the mission were the transport of supplies and preparing the station for the arrival of the first resident crew. After docking with the ISS Yuri Malenchenko and Edward Lu took a spacewalk to switch between the ISS Zvezda and Zarya modules to route a cable and install a magnetometer. On 20 September 2000, the mission ended after 11 days, 19 hours and 12 minutes to Cape Canaveral.

Private

Terrence Wilcutt is married and has two children.
