Texas Hill Country AVA

Texas Hill Country AVA ( recognized since 29 November 1991) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of Texas. The area is located in the Texas Hill Country north of San Antonio and west of Austin.

This wine region is the second largest American Viticultural Area, and extends over 36,400 km ² in theory. However, the actual area under vines is low 300 acres. Within the Texas Hill Country, the influence of German immigrants is omnipresent. Due to the warm climate, however, the immigrants could not set accents in the wine, as the German grape varieties for the climatic conditions on site are not suitable. In Texas are mostly varietals from France, Spain and Italy in use.
